Deep windows, cool rooms

Shadow of a railing on a warm wall

A window reveal of forty centimetres does more for summer than any blind.

In June the sun stands high at noon. A deep reveal throws a shadow over the glass, so the heat stays outside. In winter the sun is low, slips under the same edge and warms the floor.

Old houses in hot places knew this. Thick walls were not only for structure. We draw every reveal for the direction its window faces, and the numbers change a lot from south to west.
